The Ten Commandments: "What Are Our Options for God?"
Exodus 20: 2-6
There is only one God and He has made
His identity clear (vv.1-2).
“And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’…”
– Exodus 3:14
“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
- Isaiah 55:11
“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”
– Matthew 6:9
“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make
Our home with him.’”
– John 14:23
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God
and Savior Jesus Christ,”
– Titus 2:11-13
God is serious about His identity and He demands that we are serious about it too (vv.3-5a).
“whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.”
- Philippians 3:19
“Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.”
- Isaiah 45:22
God’s jealousy to be known is great…
but His mercy is greater (vv.5b-6).
“But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, ‘This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,’ then He adds, ‘Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.’” - Hebrews 10:12-17
