The Ten Commandments: "The Kind of Parents Who Deserve Honor"

Exodus 20:12

Six truths about a parent’s honor

1.Allparents must receive honor. 

“For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’”  - Mark 7:10

 “Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.”  - Colossians 3:20

 “My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother;”

- Proverbs 1:8

-“A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.”  - Proverbs 10:1
1.All parents must receive honor.
2.A parent’s honor is engrained, not earned

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord,

for this is right.”

  - Ephesians 6:1

“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.”

  - Mark 9:42

3.There is no expiration dateon a parent’s honor. 

“Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and keep My Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God… You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the Lord.”  - Leviticus 19:3,32

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise: ‘that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.’”

 – Ephesians 6:1-3

4.As the parents are honored, the family is honored.
5.As the parents are honored, the nation is blessed.
6.As the parents are honored, the promised landbecomes visible. 

“having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace… In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”  - Ephesians 1:5-7, 13-14
